Hunter Biden’s Sweetheart Plea Deal Collapsed
Hunter Biden might not get away with profiting from all of his shady foreign business dealings after all.
GALLAGHER: Here was Stephen Miller last night. The former Trump adviser on Newsmax laying this out and talking about what Hunter Biden ought to be doing as Hunter is facing a ton of charges.
MILLER: “It’s very clear that the goal of this plea deal was to try to close the book on the Biden family, to say, ‘All right, we’ll just have you plead to some minor little tax crime and we’ll just pretend like this isn’t a very big deal and you won’t go to jail and we’ll sort of make this all disappear and go away,’ rather than following the investigation to it’s natural conclusion point, which is the big guy. And so the reason why this foreign registered agent issue is so key is because it points back to Joe Biden and his time as vice president. In other words, the tax crime conceals an even deeper and graver crime, which is the use of the vice president’s office to do favors for a foreign entity for personal enrichment. In other words, the firing of the prosecutor that was investigating Burisma, that was paying that Biden family through Hunter, that is what is at stake if you follow the failure to register as a foreign agent versus treating this as just a simple little tax crime, like a small business owner, he got a couple years wrong on his forms, not about influence peddling. And so what Republicans in Congress, and what I hope Democrats if they were being fair would demand is that Hunter Biden be prosecuted for failing to register as a foreign agent. And the only plea deal that should be offered to him is this: ‘Tell us every single thing your father did or go to jail.’”
GALLAGHER: How important. You don’t want to go to jail? What did your Father know? Jonathan Turley, the legal scholar. The law professor over on Fox News yesterday.
TURLEY: “Well, this is a big problem because this was all supposed to be scripted, it was all supposed to be easy. Now it’s off script and it’s anything but easy because the judge just raised the one charge that the White House most fears, which is the chance that Hunter was a foreign agent. And if he was a foreign agent, the question is, foreign agent for who and for what purpose? The president was that purpose. If you are influence-peddling, it’s influence over the president. So if you go for FARA, it’s going to bring all of this stuff in, including some of these tax counts for 2014 and 2015 that the Department of Justice allowed to run, allowed the statute of limitations to expire. All of that can get bootstrapped into a FARA issue. So, the whole purpose of this deal is collapsing as we’re watching it, and it’s taken Washington by utter surprise. I was on the Hill talking with members and everyone was floored.”
