Lawrence Jones Grills Republican Presidential Candidate Asa Hutchinson
Fox’s Lawrence Jones grills former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson over his decision to enter the 2024 presidential race.
GALLAGHER: Here was Lawrence Jones interviewing Asa Hutchinson. The former Arkansas governor. A Never Trumper, a RINO, a guy that embraces a lot of Democrat party policies, but he calls himself a Republican. He made the mistake of going on Fox News last night.
JONES: Republicans have said what their position is. I understand you are for free speech and all these other issues. Like I said respectfully sir. I understand that your for economic freedom and all that. Those are the typical Republican positions. That would work back in 2008. Even 2006. There is a different Republican Party now. What I asked you the question, why are you running? It seems like you are opposed to all of the things that the modern-day Republican Party stands for. What you say to that?
HUTCHINSON: Well, I disagree with that. I lowered taxes in Arkansas.
JONES: Again typical Republican talking point.
HUTCHINSON: Lawrence, Lawrence. You’ve got to listen to me as well. You’ve got to listen as well. We balanced the budget and that’s what Republicans do. We lead in this country on conservative principles. Whenever you’re looking at our values I stand second to none in terms of fighting for pro-life values and conservative values. Look at my record Lawrence.
GALLAGHER: He went on to ask him about his position with Ukraine because Lawrence says Republicans don’t support an unlimited flow of funds to Ukraine. What about your view being the big pro Ukraine war guy that you are.
JONES: When I asked what is the redline is because there are many people that want to invade other countries. When an American says our issues matter first will you listen to your voters? I understand your position. The Republicans have spoken and all of the polling data and they don’t support this. They support it initially and now they want to pull back on it. Is that something you are willing to change to gain their vote?
HUTCHINSON: Well, the answer is no. I don’t sense that belief among the Republican base that I talked to. I think there is broad support for our efforts in Ukraine. Also, they don’t want prolonged war and this administration, the Biden administration has been slow in delivering the support that is needed.
GALLAGHER: Finally, Lawrence Jones pointed out the decidedly unenthusiastic level of support for an Asa Hutchinson for President campaign in America.
JONES: Governor, let’s get straight to it. If you know me and you watch my work, I travel across the country, I talk to voters, diners, middle America, urban America. Governor, I haven’t found one person that says they want Asa Hutchinson to be the President of United States. Why are you running?
HUTCHINSON: Well, because there are people out there that would like to see me run for President. There is certainly a gap between myself and Donald Trump who is right now leading the ticket on the Republican side. That’s why you have campaigns. That’s why you have choices. That’s why I am able to talk about the economy. My experience in law enforcement. There’s no one that has more experience in law enforcement than me.
