There Are Republicans On TV Who Will Continue To Turn On Trump Despite Americans’ Love For Him
Former AG Bill Barr & Former NJ Gov. Chris Christie who are on the right have decidedly completely turned on Donald Trump.
GALLAGHER: Some of the Republican pundits are all about suggesting that Trump is beatable to the Democrats. I’m giving this to you with a grain of salt. We know the way some of these Republicans have turned on him. But let’s face it. Bill Barr was Trump’s attorney general. He knows him. Here’s what he said on ABC’s “This Week”.
BARR: The left is always talking about the ills of politicizing the criminal justice system. I couldn’t agree more that that’s a serious risk. I have spoken out against it for decades. This is unfortunate, this is a clear example of that kind of abuse. And I think it also may accomplish its purpose which is to get into the middle of the Republican primary process and turn it into a circus. I think ultimately, the savvy democratic strategists know this is going to help Trump. They want him to be the nominee because he is the weakest of the Republican candidates. The most likely to lose again to Biden.
GALLAGHER: So if you’re following Bill Barr’s game of 3-D chess, they’re throwing the criminal indictments against Trump because one it will propel him because of all the pushback that is resulting. It’ll propel him to be the Republican nominee and he’s gonna lose. It is a little bit of what it’s kind of what former New Jersey governor Chris Christie said to Jonathan Karl on ABC’s “This Week” yesterday.
CHRISTIE: No matter what he says and his people say, being indicted is not good for a political candidate. Like, that’s just — you know, he can get some short-term bump among certain parts of our own party, but in the end, it’s not good to be indicted. Now, we’re not going to see a trial here probably until early 2024, and so we won’t see what the result is, but he’s got other things — you know, it’s kind of like trying to land at Newark Airport on a Friday. You have a bunch of planes circling and you don’t know when exactly they’re going to land; and if they land, when they’re going to have a gate, you know? But it’s coming. And being indicted, the public does still look at that and say, that’s not what should be happening to a national leader.
