Kevin McCarthy Thanked Former President Trump After Becoming House Speaker
Newly elected House Speaker Kevin McCarthy credited former President Donald Trump for his victory.
GALLAGHER: This guy, he fought. He fought hard. He wanted the job. He got the job. I love what he said in his speech when he was finally voted in.
MCCARTHY: But I hope one thing is clear after this week. I never give up.
GALLAGHER: I mean he doesn’t give up and frankly he gave credit to President Trump. There was reporting that Trump called some of these holdouts. There is a picture of Marjorie Taylor Greene holding her phone up to somebody. You can see that the caller was identified on her cell phone as DT. I don’t know if I’d put DT. What would you put Donald Trump down in your cell phone? He is not in my cell phone contact list, admittedly. I think I’d put POTUS45. President Trump. Here is Speaker-elect McCarthy acknowledging the role that Donald Trump played in electing him Speaker.
MCCARTHY: I want to give all Americans a personal invitation. You are welcome to see this body at work. No longer will the doors be closed, but the debates will be open for you to witness what happens in the people’s house. But I do want to especially thank President Trump. I don’t think you should doubt–anybody should doubt his influence. He was with me from the beginning… And he was all in. He would call me and he would call others. And he really was – I was just talking to him tonight – helping get those final votes. And what he’s really saying really for the party and the country, that we have to come together. We have to focus on the economy. We’ve got to focus, make our border secure. We’ve got to do so much work to do, and he was a great influence to make that all happen. So, thank you, President Trump.
