The House Speakership Debate Was Great For America
Rep. Jim Jordan & Chip Roy both explain why the House Speakership debate was such a positive thing for the American people.
GALLAGHER: Here was Congressman Jim Jordan celebrating what happened Friday night.
BREAM: How do you convince Americans who watched this play out including the moment it almost turned into a physical altercation that Republicans, your party, can now govern?
JORDAN: Shannon, Kevin McCarthy got the same number of votes that Speaker Pelosi got last time. She got the same majority number 222 that we have this time. Sometimes democracy is messy. I would argue that’s exactly how the Founders intended it. They wanted real debate and real input from all people, and then you get a decision. Whether it’s one vote or 15 votes, Kevin McCarthy is still speaker of the House. I have seen all kinds of games go into extra innings and overtime. That’s just how it works. What I do now is this. We will come together to deal with how radical the Left has made the Democrat Party.
GALLAGHER: One of the most highly respected members of the 20 Republicans. Here is Congressman Chip Roy on with Jake Tapper yesterday on CNN.
ROY: “We need to be able to see some of the stuff we got to see this week. You and I were talking ahead of time, cameras, C-SPAN control the cameras.
TAPPER: “Are you in favor of that? Because I love these C-SPAN cameras.”
ROY: “Look, I think drawing people into the conversation, the debate on the floor — if you’re going to have cameras there, let’s look at the action. Let’s see — “
TAPPER: “So you’re in favor of transparency, C-SPAN gets to control that?”
ROY: “Let me go look into the ins and outs of all of that. But I think what the American people were able to see unfold on the floor was a good thing for our democracy and our republic. It was a good thing for the people to be able to see the inner workings.
GALLAGHER: Darn right, it was.
