Memphis DA Calls for Police Reform After Announcing Murder Charges Against Cops For Tyre Nichols’ Death
Shelby County, Tennessee District Attorney Steve Mulroy called for police reform.
GALLAGHER: Cop haters are going to hate cops. There is no way around that. People who have animosity towards police will ever change their hatred. It is hard to strip hatred out of someone’s soul. When somebody like me points out that being a police officer is one of the most honorable, noblest, bravest professions. Most of these people are heroes who go in and try to make their community a better place and risk their lives on daily basis. People who hate cops just roll their eyes, say police are bad, awful, evil. Doesn’t matter their skin color. But I really do appreciate what the Memphis District attorney said about this case. This is the Shelby County, Tennessee District Attorney Steve Mulroy and I think his words are very powerful.
MULROY: We all want the same thing. We all want justice for Tyre Nichols. It’s my hope that if there is any silver lining to be drawn from this very dark cloud, it’s that perhaps this incident can open a broader conversation about the need for police reform. The world is watching us, and we need to show the world what lessons we can learn from this tragedy.
GALLAGHER: Those are really poignant words and appropriate and necessary. I agree that we can have a conversation about police reform. I am pro police. You know when I am not doing this show, I spend time on Gallagher’s Heroes, the fallen officer fund, which is out charitable foundation. We assist the families of police officers who have been killed in the line of duty because too many police officers are killed in the line of duty. We publish the first responders Bible which distributes a King James Bible and a spiritual fitness manual to first responders all over the country. I proudly stand with police officers, but I don’t think there is much dispute that 5 police officers shouldn’t beat a guy to death.
