Republicans Opposing McCarthy Want To Ensure Country Club Establishment Republicans Don’t Keep Power
Rep. Lauren Boebert is one of the Republicans who would rather have Rep. Jim Jordan as Speaker of the House. All of this is occurring to oppose people like Mitch McConnell who stab the American people in the back.
GALLAGHER: I am glad we are having a healthy transparent debate over an expectation that the status quo will not hold. That is what these 20 Republicans. 20 Republicans! You know first it was 5, then 13, now 20. 20 Republicans are saying sorry, no can do on Kevin McCarthy. Yesterday, Lauren Boebert was a guest on Bret Baier’s show. Here is what she said.
BAIER: “How do you see this ending? Can you see yourself voting for a consensus candidate? Can you vote for Steve Scalise, for example?”
BOEBERT: “I am voting for anyone who actually brings unity to the Republican Party and helps get our country back on track. And we have to —“
BAIER: “And who is that?”
BOEBERT: “— actually govern on the things that we campaigned — well, right now our candidate is Jim Jordan. This is — he is a fighter. He is a leader. He may not want it right now, but George Washington did not want to be president. He did what was right for his country.”
BAIER: “So, do you think Jim Jordan is the consensus candidate?”
BOEBERT: “Right now he absolutely is, and every time that he speaks up to defend Kevin McCarthy, he actually just reaffirms why he would make a great speaker.”
BAIER: “And if you heard from him that he does not want it in any way, shape, or form, what do you say?”
BOEBERT: “I have heard that from him, and if we have the numbers, then sorry, Jim Jordan, we’re going to make you do what’s right for the country. We love you.”
BAIER: “Okay.”
GALLAGHER: I mean there is a 26 second soundbite that can sum up why these 20 Republicans are doing what they are doing. I was so angry yesterday watching Mitch McConnell take a victory lap over being this long serving Senate leader. Oh how great I am. I want you to hear Mitch McConnell just a month ago declaring that the runaway spending is over as long as the Republicans are in control of the House of Representatives. Check this out.
McConnell: “If the House becomes Republican, there’s no more one party running over us like they did through reconciliation, no more $1.9 trillion spending spree, plus another 750 in August that sent inflation through the roof. That’s over. So my message to the President is, let’s talk about doing some things that make progress for the country that we can agree on.”
GALLAGHER: All talk, because then he turned right around and gave Chuck Schumer and Pelosi and the Democrats everything they wanted. He turned around and was all on board with the $1.7T omnibus bill.
