Does Ron DeSantis make a good point that Americans need younger politicians to represent them?

GALLAGHER: Speaking of Ron DeSantis. I mean, he goes right to the point of the age, the age factor. Here’s Ron DeSantis last night or actually this week. He sat down with Norah O’Donnell on CBS and said that when you’re in your 80s, that’s simply too old to be the commander in chief.

O’DONNELL: Age has become an issue in this presidential contest.
Should voters worry about the ages of President Biden and former President Donald Trump?

DESANTIS: I think that absolutely legitimate concern and the presidency is not a job for someone that’s 80 years old. And there’s nothing wrong with being 80. Obviously, I’m the governor of Florida. I know a lot of people who are elderly. They’re great people. But you’re talking about a job where you need to give it 100%. You need we need an energetic president. And I think that if the founders could could kind of look at this again, I do think they probably would have put an age limit on some of these offices. I mean, it seems like our leadership class now in Washington, 75, 80, 80 plus years old, is where those folks are. And I think that I think Americans, if we if Biden’s the Democrat nominee and the Republican nominee, I think it should be a lot of Americans that are going to want to see a generational passing of the torch.

GALLAGHER: Gosh, I mean, for many people, he nails it, has a great perspective on this. Now, in the context of what he said, you know, a lot of people are cynically going to say, is he talking about Trump? Trump is 77. He’ll be in his eighties during his second term. But the caveat to that is, as Governor DeSantis puts it, you want somebody that’s energetic. Do you think Donald Trump suffers from a lack of energy? Is there anybody who thinks Trump isn’t energetic? Give me a break. He’s 77. And let’s face it, he’s one of the youngest 77 year olds you’ve ever seen. And everybody knows that, too. I guess you could say, well, does he is it going to slow down a step or two over the next couple of years? I kind of think Trump is the Energizer bunny who just just keeps on ticking, takes a licking and keeps on ticking and gosh knows, he’s taken a lot of a lot of beatings on this day. A lot of these days, a lot of a lot of licking. I think there’s some 3D chess going on here. I’ll be real honest with you. I want Biden to be the nominee. I like our chances if Joe Biden is the nominee.
