Ron DeSantis Insulting Trump Supporters Might Not Be A Great Political Strategy
Ron DeSantis referred to Trump supporters as ‘listless vessels’ in a new interview.
GALLAGHER: This is a challenge and I am not trying to pile on here. I don’t want to criticize a Republican, who might end up being the nominee, but frankly I don’t quite get it. How are you going to go after Trump without Trump supporters feeling attacked? Trump is a movement. It is not even about the man. It is MAGA. It is millions and millions of Americans who want this country to come first and believe that Trump is the guy who has done it and will do it again. That is the problem here. This whole mystery about DeSantis in the polls, and how DeSantis is lagging so behind in the polls. That is why. Anything he says about Trump is going to come back to haunt him, I think because Trump supporters believe he is talking about them. This is really tricky. Here was what DeSantis said on this interview with Will Witt on The Florida Standard that got a lot of tongues wagging.
DESANTIS: We have a strand in our party who views supporting Trump as whether you are a RINO or not. You could be the most conservative person since sliced bread. Unless you’re kissing his rear end, they will somehow call you a RINO. You’re not rooted in principle, if all we are is listless vessels that are just supposed to follow whatever happens to come down the pike on Truth Social every morning, that’s not going to be a durable movement.
GALLAGHER: I am going to say this flat out. Ron DeSantis has one chance. The only chance he has is if he manages to convince the country that when he criticizes Trump, he is not criticizing Trump supporters.
