What Is Your Message To Atheists?
Mike takes calls to respond to a listener who texted that they don’t believe in God.
GALLAGHER: Lee in Alabama has an answer for the atheist who texted me. This is a good conversation. Let’s have it. I’ll bet you there is a lot of people who struggle with their faith and I guarantee you there are plenty of listeners who are more elegant about this than I am. Hi Lee. Merry Christmas!
CALLER LEE: Merry Christmas to you Mike. Listen to you regularly. I had the same questions many years ago about why does bad things happen to really good people. In my reading of Scriptures, I came across this. Ecclesiastes Ch 9, verse 11. Listen to this. It says I returned and saw under the sun that the race is not to the swift. In other words, the fastest man doesn’t always win the race. The battle to the strong. The strongest man doesn’t always win the battle. Nor bread to the wise, Nor riches to men of understanding, Nor favor to men of skill; But time and chance happen to them all.
GALLAGHER: Amen. Thank you for sharing that with us. Lia in Arlington, Texas. Lia, the listener poses a good question. Why should we believe when terrible things happen like school shootings? What do you say to somebody like her?
CALLER LIA: I would say, I guess its more of an observation than an answer. I’ve noticed that when bad things happen, obviously people say where was God in this but when good things happen, people very seldom say where was God in this? I know if I were to get cancer, I would say how can this happen to me but if I won the lottery, I wouldn’t say how could God let this happen to me. God is eternal through the good or the bad.
GALLAGHER: You know, its funny you mention that too. Listeners know about my journey with my loved ones and cancer. All of them. In fact, my wife said when people would say why me about cancer. Why not me? Mark Davis and I had a great conversation that I’m about to share with you about the fragility of life, the sanctity of life.
