Why Is Ron DeSantis Not Performing Well In The Polls?
A new poll out of New Hampshire spells bad news for the Ron DeSantis presidential campaign.
GALLAGHER: I think Ron DeSantis is the antithesis of a Republican in name only. Ron DeSantis is an effective, accomplished, smart, I think, very capable politician. So what’s happening with him? A lot of text messages coming in, pouring in on the mypillow text line from Savannah, Georgia. Mike, the DeSantis campaign got off on the wrong, wrong foot in New Hampshire several months ago when they claimed support for him from state legislators who were still undecided. So maybe there’s something peculiar happening in the Granite State. Here’s a text from the upstate of South Carolina. Trump is the only one who cannot be bought. DeSantis can be bought, and he isn’t who we think he is. Well, again, that’s coming from a Trump supporter. I’m frankly, I have seen no evidence to confirm that. We can all have our suspicions, but that’s not necessarily true at all. North Carolina. Ron DeSantis Not strong enough. We need the dynamic iron will first. And from California comes this text message. Trump supporters hate Trump Backstabbers. It’s as simple as that. You know, clearly President Trump feels that Governor DeSantis has not been loyal to him for the role that Trump played in helping DeSantis get elected governor. And I think there’s some merit to that. Another here’s a text from Sacramento. If Krispy Kreme is beating you, it’s time to get out. I mean, you tell me why in the world. Ron DeSantis, his campaign is performing the way it is. If you’re just joining us, I mean, it’s a huge story’s a CNN. New Hampshire primary poll conducted by the University of New Hampshire. Trump has a commanding lead. What’s new? Nothing’s changed there. He’s got 39% support. The next closest one is businessman Vivek Ramaswamy. He came in second place with 13% support. Nikki Haley is third with 12%. Chris Christie is fourth with 11%. Ron DeSantis, as Breitbart points out. DeSantis, whose campaign made it clear over the summer that it would continue to focus primarily on New Hampshire as well as the other two states, collapsed to fifth place with just 10% support. Tim Scott, incidentally, is followed with 6%. Mike Pence saw 2% support. Everybody else saw 1.1% support or less. Can you help me understand why Ron DeSantis is doing so poorly? My buddy Mark Davis in Dallas has a simple answer because Trump exists. The existence of Donald J. Trump. That’s it. If Trump was out of the picture, this antis is the front runner. He does just fine. He checks all the boxes like I often say about Ron DeSantis. What box doesn’t he check? Oh, you can give me the speculation. Oh, is he is he is he affiliated with the Bushes? All of those are talking points from the Trump campaign, and that’s okay. DeSantis has Trump has talking points from the DeSantis campaign. Criticize him, Trump for his comments about abortion recently and other things. But this is a weird this is an oddity. This is an oddity. And you know me, I’m transparent. If I if I saw things that I disliked about Ron DeSantis, despite knowing the importance of a Republican in the White House next year, I’d share it with you. I don’t what what’s what’s Ron DeSantis doing wrong? What’s he saying? That doesn’t make sense? What’s he saying that you disagree with? I think Mark Davis is right. It’s the existence of Donald Trump, which reinforces what I’ve always said. It wasn’t DeSantis this time. DeSantis should have waited.
