Would The Issue Of Abortion Be Why There Wasn’t A Red Tsunami In The Midterm Elections?

Share

Mike’s caller explains why he wishes Roe v. Wade was left alone so that Republicans could potentially win more victories.

GALLAGHER: Ted in Venice, Florida. We’ll start with you. Hi Ted.
CALLER TED: Hi. I’m a registered Republican and respectfully disagree with some of your points. Yes, it is a win. I accept that, but it is not a big enough majority. We can block him, but we can’t get a lot done.
GALLAGHER: I don’t disagree with that. I said we can block him, but so far we are on the same page.
CALLER TED: Ok, I think where we are in disagreement is this. You said earlier that it was worth it to have Roe overturned if it saved thousands of lives and we didn’t win as big as we could have. I respectfully disagree. I am not pro-abortion. I am pro life. However, abortion whether its legal or not. Women who decide to have an abortion can go to another state. What I am saying is this. We had a layup. What turned this election was not Trump in my opinion. It was women who said I am going to split my ticket in some of these cases because that candidate that is Republican where I live has made it clear that he is anti-abortion in many cases.
GALLAGHER: I get that completely and I go back to you saying you are pro-life though. Since 1973, women were given a constitutional right that didn’t exist in the constitution. Women had a federal right to an abortion that doesn’t exist. There is no question as you and I both know that thousands of lives have already been saved as a result of Roe v. Wade being overturned. When Roe v. Wade was overturned, I think you and I know both knew politically this was going to be very tough for the Republican party and it is, but you’re either pro-life or you’re not. Are you telling me you’re only pro life if it means we win at the ballot box?
CALLER TED: No, what I’m saying is whether I am pro life or not, it doesn’t change what my neighbor whose a woman is going to do.
GALLAGHER: What do you do about that? Close that out for me. What are you trying to say Ted?
CALLER TED: What I am trying to say is this. I wish that they would’ve left Roe alone. I would have rather as a Republican knowing that this is ultimately a personal decision made by women that they would’ve left it alone and not put this thought in millions of people’s minds.
GALLAGHER: I got it. Are you a parent?
CALLER TED: I am. I have two sons.
GALLAGHER: You’ve never said to your sons, I wish everything was lollipops and sunshine. The world doesn’t work that way Ted. You and I both know that. The reason it happened is because we have a conservative Supreme Court. You either want to support a conservative Supreme Court or you don’t. Roe v. Wade being overturned was a good decision and it saved lives.
